Up for auction is a nice Civil War CDV of Mrs. Marie Mathilde Deslonde Slidell. It measures 2 1/2" by 3 7/8" and is in excellent shape. T is an Anthony backmark as seen in the pictures and someone has written her name in pencil on the back. She was devoted to the Confederate cause abroad and VERY influencial in society! Marie Mathilde Deslonde was from the exclusive French community in New Orleans. She married John Slidell in 1835 and they had three or possibly four children. John Slidell was a Confederate diplomat to France during the Civil War who had previously served as a senator from Louisiana. I had an incident reported from a buyer - they received a tampered with package w the items purchased were removed and then resealed...this amounted to significant money! Neither the buyer nor the seller (ME) are at fault yet the items bought are gone. The Postmaster at his local post office confirmed the tampering. Since I cannot afford to sell items and then refund money I am going to insist ALL purchases going forward have insurance purchased. I will still offer the free shipping with delivery confirmation. Once an item sells you will have to wait for a proper invoice with insurance added according to the Post Office charges before payment can be sent.
