BL Described By: Bonny Title Rare Antique Magic Lantern Slide of Negro Black Soldiers Kill Rebels in Civil War Description: You are now bidding on a Rare Antique Magic Lantern Slide of Negro Black Buffalo Soldiers Kill Rebels in Civil War . This slide shows a black and white photographic image of the lithograph by Kurz and Allison, 1890, The Storming of Fort Wagner, the most famous battle fought by the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. This scarce slide clearly shows several African American Soldiers fighting for the cause of the Union against the Confederacy as the rebel flag flies in the background. In the early years of the nineteenth and twentieth century glass lantern slides, in this case a photographic image, were a popular form of entertainment, known as "magic lantern" exhibitions. They were also used in education as well. Slides were used with an oil lamp and a lens, images painted on glass plates could be projected on to a suitable screen. It truly is a lost art with high collectible value. The photograph is beautifully executed, it would be a wonderful piece of art to display, possibly mounted or wire attached for hanging over a window.
