This offering is for a Ft. Washita Bowie Knife duo reproduction ( new ).The knives are crafted after those used at Ft. Washita, Oklahoma during the Civil War. Originally a U.S military fort established under General Zachary Taylor, it was abandoned by Federal forces at the beginning of the Civil War and subsequently seized by Confederate forces. Fort Washita saw no battle action during the war but was an important supply depot and military hospital for the Confederates.The large knife measures 13" overall and was used in battle and for heavy duty cutting activities such as cutting through underbrush and small saplings. The 9" knife was used for detail work such as food preparation and eating.
