For your bidding consideration we present you with a Authentic " WARTIME PERIOD "-Civil War Era CDV, Carte De Vista , of Confederate General Joe Johnston, from the FAMOUS and HIGHLY Regarded Photographer, Julian Vannerson from Richmond Virginia. This is the photographer that made some of the MOST Famous CDV's of Robert E. Lee during the War, and he was the photographer that made the standing post of Lee that ended up becoming a Statue by the Famous Artist, Valentine. You can find TONS of History on this Photographer, Julian Vannerson, throughout the Internet and more info on the relationship between Robert E. Lee and himself, which would be a great thing for the winner of this CDV to do, this way they can add that info to their display, along with this CDV. Its VERY RARE to find CDV's of the War Period, let alone Confederate ones due to so many people destroying them once the War ended and the Confederacy fell. People were heart broken and sick, so anytime they came across a Rebel CDV, they tore it up, burned it, and so on. Again, ALL this can be found online with a little research, but finding a Wartime Confederate CDV is next to impossible these days, and when you find one, it will normally cost you hundreds and in some cases, Thousands!! Refer to the North South Trader Civil War Price Guide, 12th Edition for more info relating to these AMAZING prices. When you add the fact that this photographer had such great history with Robert E. Lee, that alone adds value to any of his CDV's, especially of other Confederate Generals such as this one here. Now, we've had this in our collection for some time and I HATE to part with it, but were building our business for our children and grand kids, therefore it's worth parting with in our eyes. This is the first time this CDV has been offered to the public in over 20 years, so don't let it pass you by as its in great condition for its age. There is some foxing or yellowing as shown above, but there's No rips, tears or breaks of any kind. Other then that slight yellowing, this CDV is PERFECT in our opinion. There's a couple Tiny spots of brown, which is what I consider part of the yellowing and you can see these above. Now, I HAVE to mention this... below, we planned to place the history of General Johnston, however, the history we found on Wikipedia was VERY, VERY LONG and that was just for his Civil War History, so please check this history out to know more about this amazing general. We did however place his post war history below and we did this mainly because it shows how honorable he was and what we mean is...while he was at General Sherman's Funeral, he removed his hat while it was raining to pay his respect, however he was ill at the time and someone mentioned he should place his hat back on, yet he refused and right after that, he ended up getting sick and later died. You can read this below and once again, be sure to read the history at Wikipedia to learn more about this Amazing General. Another GREAT reason we want you to read that history is, right at the very begining, it shows a picture of Johnston in his uniform and it states below that pic that it was taken between 1861 & 1865...that is the EXACT same picture as this CDV here, so another great detail which shows this CDV is of the Wartime Period.
