Original CDV of Civil War Union General William Franklin photographed by Brady published by Anthony. Studio stamp on back and handwritten 'Franklin'. This CDV was part of vintage album including many CDVs of Union Army Generals (some signed), Abraham Lincoln, members of Lincoln's cabinet, Robert E. Lee (signed), politicians and a few notable writers and abolitionists during CW. The album was not salvageable but thankfully the photos were. Measures approx. 2.25 x 3.75". Condition is good there is small foxing lower right. This will ship fast and FREE within protective sleeve. He attended West Point from 1839 to 1843, graduating first in his class. He was then assigned to the U.S. Army's Corps of Topographical Engineers, supervising many projects, including mapping expeditions, the construction of lighthouses, and the construction of the Capitol dome in Washington, DC. In 1847, during the Mexican-American War and while serving under future Union General Philip Kearny, Franklin was promoted to brevet first lieutenant for his actions in the Battle of Buena Vista.
