FRANKLIN MINT National Historical Society Civil War Chess Set Up for auction is this chess set that is in Excellent Physical condition with only a couple minor knicks in wood case. Pieces are in excellent condition. Wood case has blue velvetlike storage compartments to hold each piece carefully and securely. Case measures 12.75" x 12.75" x 2" Commissioned by the National Historical Society and made by the Franklin Mint. Pieces have booklet describing role of each patriot. For the north, a cannon is the rook. Phillip Henry Sheridan is a knight. George G. Meade is a Bishop. Clara Barton is the Queen with Ulysses S. Grant as King. William Tecumseh Sherman is the other bishop with the Iron Brigade for pawns. For the south, Pierre G.T. Beauregard is bishop. Belle Boyd is Queen. Robert E. Lee is King. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson is bishop. Jeb Stuart is knight. Mortars are rooks. The Stonewall Brigade serve as pawns. Certificate of authenticity says this set was made in 1983 and the pieces are made of solid pewter with solid brass base. The figures depicted are real heroes of the conflict from both sides. Lots of historical information comes with this set, making it a really fun present for any Civil War buff.
