Civil War discharge papers for Augustus Hinman of the 28th New York State Volunteers .Corporal Hinman served from May 14, 1861, through June 2, 1863, and was discharged "by reason of the expiration of his term."He was 24 years old, 5'7" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair and was employed as a clerk. The paper is signed by Capt. Sheldon Sturgeon (?) , of the 1st Infantry. Also signed by Capt. John C. Teny (?) . Document is in good condition, has several creases and folds that did not photograph well. It is protected under glass in an older wooden frame.
