Civil War Foot Officer's Sword with Etched Blade & Horstmann Retailer Mark This is a fine displaying original Civil War foot officer sword. This is the classic style that was carried by the line officer’s of the Civil War. The blade has the original etching that is still nice on the dark colored blade. The front side of the blade has the patriotic Union eagle with the “E PLURIBUS UNUM” motto on the sides of her. On the back of the blade it has more patriotic and floral designs and the large bold “US’ lettering. The etching still shows yup very clearly and displays superbly. At the base of the front side of the blade it has the Knight’s design maker mark. This is the maker mark of the Clauberg firm of Solingen German. Clauberg made many of the high quality edged weapons for the Union soldiers during the Civil War. At the base of the etching it has the retailer’s mark of Horstmann of Philadelphia. Horstmann sold many of the higher quality imported weapons to the Union soldiers during the Civil War. On the handle of the sword it has the original rayskin grip intact.
