Fabulous grouping from well known Civil War gunboat "Silver Cloud" . T is a hand written ledger that has all the appointments connected with the ship from Nov. 1862 to March 1865. The appointments detail who came aboard and often from what other ship they came, also their rank. Many of the appointments are signed "David D. Porter, Rear Admiral, Commanding Miss Squadron". T are two cdv images that are identified on back. One is signed on back " William H. Hathorne, Paymaster U.S.N., Steamer "Silver Cloud" Miss. Squadron.". Hawthorne was from Bath, ME.. The other is id'd as "Jesse M. Darrah, Act. Master's Mate". I don't know w he was from. The Silver Cloud was involved in a lot of action during the war, also after Forrest captured Ft. Pillow he transferred the most severely wounded Union soldiers to the Acting Master of the Silver Cloud - including 14 United States Colored Troops. Fascinating piece of Civil War history from an attic in Maine. The book focuses only on the appointments. T do appear to be some orders that are signed by others and not copies of the appointments. The ledger is very readable and in very good condition. Below is some info regarding the Silver Cloud. Silver Cloud (StwStr: t. 236; l. 155'1"; b. 32'2"; dph. 5'2"; dr. 6'; s. 7 mph.
