CIVIL WAR LETTER~E.Brown 64NYSV from S. Pease 1/23/1865 This letter was written to Ephraim E. Brown, 64th NYSV, from Samuel Pease. The letter was written from the Ordnance Office, War Department, Washington, D.C. It is dated January 23, 1865. This is a personal letter that was written on office stationary. Samuel was a good friend of Ephraim. Samuel mentions "Since you wrote I have seen the sickest days that I ever saw but at the present time am feeling tip top." Ephraim has just been discharged from the army and is planning on finding work in Washington as he feels he could make more money t than at his home in Otto, New York. Samuel tells him, "Sergt I do not know how it will be in regard to your getting into some business I went to see Mr. Manley to day and he said hold on a few days and he would see what could be done....I hope you can get work for I see the want of a friend more & more every day. I get nearly crazy by being all alone but for all that I do not long for home much." He continues, " The boys up at the hospital ask about Sergt Brown every time I am up t They are all well that is what is left t T has been a good many of the 101st Co. been sent away.
