US CIVIL WAR MUSICIAN SWORD – N. P. AMES - CABOTVILLE 1847 Thanks for visiting this auction; please note this item is offered to continental United States customers only ; that means no international shipping . Up for auction this great US CivilWar Musician’s Sword marked “N.P. Ames /Cabotville / 1847” on one side of the ricasso and with “US / S.K.” on the reverse. Grip is hallmarked with inspector’s initials “S.K.” and “J.W.R.” on the knuckle bow. This sword is from Ames’ productions under Nathan P. Ames, and one of the last to bear the “N.P. Ames” marking. Upon Nathan’s death in 1847, manufacturing hallmarks changed to Ames Mfg. Co., and one year later the hallmarks were changed again to show Chicopee, Mass., instead of Cabotville. It is not an easy find, a Model 1840 musician’s sword dated 1847 with the Cabotville address. Blade is straight with no evidence of sharpening; tip is in good condition; blade measures approximately 28-1/4 inches, and sword is about 34-1/2 inches overall. Please see photos Brass grip with simulated wire wrapping is intact and has very little play with the pinned blade. Grip had acquired a very nice gold patina. Sorry but there is no scabbard; I suspect that was lost in time a long while ago. Do not pass on the chance to add this great item to your valuable collection. Please contact me with your read more
