Hand carried letter April, 1862, Benton Barracks from a soldier to his wife on Scarce Gates design in red female hiking skirt for soldiers in formation "Officer-Front Face!". The cover is accompanied by a lengthy 4 page letter. It talks about a soldiers life, cavalry life and the 3rd Cavalry Regiment Wisconsin vols and 11 batteries of the Wisconsin batteries being at Benton Barracks. He talks abot March "Bloody" 17th. He also talks about New Mexico being the land of riches and fair women. He talks about saying good bye to soldiering. An interesting letter.
