I have a page from Eguene Hovey's Civil War sketchbook . Hovey, a know Civil War artist, lost his book in 1863 after having sketched numerous views of Union camp life. Fifty years later, in 1914, the sketch book was returned to Hovey by a veteran who found the book on a dead union soldier in 1863. I have a copy of Hovey's letter describing this case of 'lost and found', which is pictured. The drawing is interesting on its own merits; it depicts an ox cart in service of a freed slave, two civilians and a Union soldier. I imagine the drawing depicts the evacuation after a battle. This is a one of a kind piece of Civil War history with a amazing history of its own. Hovey's sketches are in a special collection at Virginia Tech University and George Mason University, see pix. The sketch has been museum framed. Image: 7" x 9"--Frame: 11" x 13" I want to sell this great sketch so please make a reasonable offer and I will accept it. PLEASE NOTE: THE PENCIL LINES ARE MUCH DARKER THAN THEY APPEAR IN PICTURE. THE SKETCH IS FRAMED WHICH RESULTED IN SCANS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE TRUE CONTRAST.
