The book measures 6 x 9 inches in size and is in fine condition, with slight cover wear and some discoloration to its top edge from former dust accumulation over more than a century's time. It is in its original cloth covers, with its binding tight.This volume is devoted to coverage of events surrounding the Battle of Antietam. There are only a few letters directly related to that battle, but the overall volume covers action throughout that Maryland Campaign in the fall of 1862, with lots on the operations in Northern Virginia, and around Harper’s Ferry, including the defenses of that strategic point; and its siege and capture from Sept. 12-15, 1862.Its first section consists of 165 pages of reports and letters from officers in the field concerning local actions.
