On the night of May 1, 1863, the Confederacy's three great chieftains - Lee, Jackson and Stuart-studied a map by the glow of a campfire. General J.E.B. Stuart had discovered a weakness in the Northern lines. Lee decided to divide his army and attack the enemy's weak point. At daylight General Thomas J."Stonewall" Jackson would lead his corps on a march around the enemy flank. It would be Lee's greatest victory, but it would come as a terrable cost to the South: " Stonewall" Jackson would be mortally wounded. A year later J.E.B. Stuart would also fall. Never again would Lee, Jackson and Stuart confer together. This was their last council.
