Up for auction is a beautiful dug Civil War Regulation 1826 Pattern Shoulder Belt Plate for enlisted troops ca. 1856-1863. This particular plate was manufactured by Emerson Gaylord. Emerson Gaylord took over the Ames accourtrement business in 1856 and became one of the larger government and state contractors for leather goods and plates. This plate has a Die-Struck rolled brass face with a thick lead filling. The iron loops are gone but otherwise this is a perfect plate with no dings of any kind and a beautiful eagle front. This plate was dug in New Kent County Virginia. This plate would make a wonderful addition to your collection and is VERY hard to come by dug in this condition. I said the plate was ding free but on the front you can see on the thigh area of the eagle some lead is exposed, but very small. T is also a light scratch mark on the front near the eagles head.
