CIVIL WAR SOLDIER CDV ID'D SIGNED 8TH IL.INF. W. LETTER Search FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A VERY INTERESTING LOT OF PHOTOS PURCHASED FROM AN ESTATE AUCTION OUTSIDE OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS. THE FIRST ITEM IN THIS LOT IS AN IDENTIFIED AND SIGNED CDV PHOTO OF CORPORAL JOHN. A. COULSON OF THE 8 TH ILLINOIS US INFANTRY, COMPANY C. CORPORAL COULSON, A NATIVE OF CHILLICOTHE, ROSS COUNTY, OHIO IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN A FARMER FROM THE CHARLESTON, COLES COUNTY ILLINOIS AREA BEFORE HIS ENLISTMENT. ACCOMPANYING HIS PHOTO IS A COPY OF A LETTER WRITTEN DURING HIS ENCAMPMENT AT VICKSBURG TO MR. GEORGE WASHINGTON PARKER, WHO IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CHARLESTON, ILLINOIS AT THE TIME OF HIS WRITING. THE LETTER IS A COPY FROM THE MISSOURI STATE HISTORICAL ARCHIVES - FOUND IN THEIR CIVIL WAR MANUSCRIPTS GUIDE WITHIN THE GEORGE WASHINGTON PARKER PAPERS, ITEM A306. THE LETTER MOSTLY DISCUSSES THE PREVALENCE OF SPECULATING IN THE ARMY... "The news from this place is of curious kind, our Post Commander, Robert (?)
