CIVIL WAR UNION SOLDIER DEAD LETTER OFFICE BLUE CDV CARTE DE VISITE PHOTO 1279GEThis is a rare photograph of a Union Civil War soldier. The most unique thing about this photo is that it came from the Dead Letter Office at a post office. The Dead Letter Office is a place that mail went that wasn't addressed properly and couldn't be delivered. They were stapled to a wall and numbered the lower right corner in red pen. People would go to the post office and look through the photos and if one belonged to them they were able to take it off the wall. This soldier must have been one that was claimed.I have attached a photo of a wall of soldier CDVs at a post office to get an idea of what it used to look like. The photo measures about 2.25 x 4 inches. You will receive the exact photo from the pictures.I combine shipping on everything in my store.Feel free to message me with any questions.
