This is a nice lot from a Madison Wisconsin estate. The medal is the usual star-shaped GAR Civil War veterans medal. No serial number. It has an American Flag 9cloth torn). It has a spring-loop at the other end to be used as a watch fob. Included is a letter from 1907. The letter is on GAR New Jersey stationary. The letter is written by the Veteran who owned this medal. He is John Lawrence, and his name is printed at the top of the letter as Quartermaster. The letter is hand written, and details his having given the medal to the recipient of this letter. Also, the body of the letter details some of his experience during the Civil War, including battle details. He says he was in Co. G 1 st NJ Volunteers, Kearneys 1 st NJ Brigade. The letter is very nice, written on 2 sides, on official stationary. So you get both the letter and the medal. Buyer pays shipping, $6 in USA. Thank you.
