Panasonic AM/FM Table Radio Model 740 Greetings radio aficionados! Looking for an unusual, good-sounding, mid-60s-vintage tube table radio for your collection or display? Well, check out this one! It's a nice clean example of a classic 1964 Panasonic AM/FM Tube Table Radio, model 740. This radio was built in Japan with solid construction that is reminiscent of European tube radios of the period. Its 6-tube hand-wired chassis actually includes a 9-pin European tube (Philips HCH81). It also has an oversized output transformer, a 6" speaker, and loudness compensation that utilizes degenerative audio feedback. These features provide for a rich and natural tube sound with good bass response. Its attractive cabinet is made of shiny black plastic with a large easy-to-read slide rule dial. The dial window has reverse embossed numbers for the station frequencies. At the upper left-hand corner of the front, t is a neon pilot light to indicate when the radio is turned on. All functions are accomplished with four rotary knobs on the front of the radio. The volume control is single function. The On/Off switch is on the continuous tone control that also allows you adjust to your individual timbre preference.
