This is a very fine & unusual example of Santa Clara Brownware. As you can see from photo #2, it displays beautifully with pottery from other Pueblos as well as Hopi. This is a rare and unusual color combination with a brown background that gradually become darker toward the base. The simple rain cloud & lightning design elements are done in a charcoal grey. Although this piece is un-signed, I understand that Carmelita Dunlap experimented with this color combination, so this may have been done by one of her contemporaries or a novice admirer. It is nicely done & demonstrates the care and attention to detail that you would expect from a seasoned artist. It is 6.75" wide by 5" high, lightly polished, balanced & symmetrical. Condition is very good with just a few minor handling marks. I've taken photos from all angles, so you can get a good look. The finish on the body and the matte grey design elements are very nice. No cracks, chips, or repairs. This is a wonderful piece that any collector would be happy to have in their collection. This is beautiful pottery at a budget price. Offers considered within reason.
