Not having used it for some years, I carefully pulled it from the back of the wardrobe and fired it up on the kitchen table and everything seems to be working fine. This is about the full kit for the S-750. I have the sampler itself, a three unit high and real deep rack box, the seperate monitor, the original proper Roland mouse (not sure if other mice will substitute, it uses a sort of Windows 3.1 era plug plus what? inside), a seperate disc drive to store samples (and the system software), a Funky Junk reprint of the full manual, all the cabling (SCSI between seperate drive and sampler, monitor to sampler connection, three mains leads for the three items) and a small heap of floppies with quite a few sounds downloaded from the Roland library. The old library for these S samplers is still on line (and free to access) at http://www.sgroup.ca/archive/samples/Roland/S550/ It's not an absolutely complete resource and a few are missing or spoilt but there's loads there. As I remember it, the earlier models, S550 and S50 are compatible with the S-750 (I seem to remember you use the 'load convert' when loading them up). I'm not sure it can read the S-770 samples but I might be wrong or there might be a way around that. You will need an older computer with a floppy drive or a seperate floppy drive you can plug into your latest model in order to create floppies from the downloads. Then you can pass the floppies over to the S-750 to read. I faintly remember that sometimes there was a bit of messing about needed but it was all doable and workoutable. It seemed like not all the samples stored on that library were loaded up in the same way. I've got some old secondhand floppy discs you're welcome to wipe and reuse if you need them. I've still got the acoustic bass I downloaded from the library and with some tidying and tweaking I remember it as being fabulous. Otherwise, there are all the possibilities of making and remodelling your own samples. I never got that deeply into it as I bought this in the very early days of getting into audio equipment and for what I wanted to do, it turned out a sampler wasn't so relevant. However, I remember the amount of possibility in this box is fabulous with what you can set up to adjust and create sounds and how sounds change with velocity or over duration or other factors.It has analogue stereo outs plus six individual analogue outs and there's plenty of memory so you can have a whole heap of sounds or instruments all going at once, each controlled on its own MIDI channel and all coming out on individual outs for mixing or further treatment or you can mix them inside the S-750. Case is a bit scratched but generally everything is in reasonable cosmetic condition. The big LED screen works fine but I've never used it as it's so much easier to use the mouse and monitor but I think you can control it all with the panel buttons and the LED though I read that some features come up on the monitor but not on the screen.I can't quite find out how to get it to display the memory sizes in bytes (if it can) but it displays in seconds and with no samples loaded, this particular S-750 has 204.5 seconds free in onboard RAM (= 3 minutes 24.5 seconds (so you could load a whole song in mono in there I suppose.... if you wanted to)) and the seperate drive has 6059 seconds free but I've got loaded approximately 210 seconds of samples so total is 6269 seconds (= 1 hour 44 minutes 29 seconds) which is not counting the system software that is loaded there. I've also got a few backup floppy discs with the system software loaded on. When you first switch it on, it has to load up the system software from the disc drive or a system floppy.There's quite a bit around the internet on the old Roland S series samplers and you get the impression people really rate them (here are a few /synth_reviews/roland_s750/1/ ) and think better of them than the famous Akai samplers.
