Clayton Rippey (b.1923) is a prolific painter who travelled extensively and experimented with a number of different styles of painting. The painting offered for sale is a watercolor that was painted in Hawaii. There is an inscription on the reverse of the painting giving the location but it is currently covered by the frame. It could be a golf course because the composition is a flat planar region in the foreground with distant hills. The painting creates a sense of distance and monumentally of the hills. Bands of light and shadow on the foreground push back the middle of the painting. The painting is signed in the lower right. The painting has a small scrape in the upper left quadrant that was probably caused by broken glass in a previous framing. The overall visual effect of this white area is not too distracting and can be seen in the photographs. The simple design wood frame has a thin mat separating the painting from the glass. The mat is cut rough in area. The visible size is 26" x 20 1/2". The outer frame dimensions are 29 1/2" x 23 1/2". Any questions will be gladly answered.
