A Historical Staffordshire Pearlware Dark Blue Transferware Deep Pie Dish circa 1830~ Saint Catherine's Hill ~ Near Guildford ~ Foliage and Scroll Border ~ James & Ralph Clews ~10 1/2" long x 8" wide ~ 2 1/4" deepA beautifully printed deep bowl by the Clews brothers which I think is called a 'pie dish' rather than a 'vegetable bowl' which isn't as deep. Beautifully printed river scene with barge, two fishermen and man standing at a fence to left. In the distance is 'St Catherine's Hill.' The lush trees and foliage on the sides of the bowl make this the perfect 'grotto effect' piece. The two long sides outside of the dish are also printed with snippets of the fishermen. This has a finely combed base impressed with the 'Clews Warranted Staffordshire' and crown mark.~This bowl is in SUPERB original condition with glossy glaze and probably never used. There are two PIN SIZE flakes on the left rim more felt than seen, and the inside base has two irregular glazed over small dents which I illustrated in the pics.I heard a lecture once given by Letitia Roberts at the NY Historical Society who encouraged collectors to buy bowls because they're always in read more
