No 301 of only 2000 copies."Thoroughly researched history of the Climax locomotives, detailing the engine's origin and construction of the Class A and Class B. The authors explain the features of a logging railroad, its development and operation and why Climaxes was so well adapted to it, the design of the Climax with extensive technical details, the history of the builder and its personnel, and other manufacturers of geared locomotives, such as Baldwin and Dunkirk (with rosters). The final section is an invaluable (although admittedly incomplete) listing of all the Climaxes built -- listed by construction number and by ownership. Some volumes also have a 4 page Addenda listing 35 more locomotives. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos (and with a beautiful color frontispiece showing a painting of an Elk River Coal and Lumber Co.
