Offered for auction is a 19th century American coin silver mint julep cup by the New York maker Wood & Hughes. This piece is 3 1/2" high by 3" in diameter and features a decorative beaded band at the lip and the base. As you will note in the photos, this cup bears the engraved initials of "M.F.J." The approximate weight of this cup is 4 ounces. This piece is marked on the bottom with the early Wood & Hughes signature (used from circa 1833 to 1871) as well as the silver content represented by 900/1000. As far as condition, this cup has a shallow 3/4" long crease on the back side. Additionally, t is the presence of fine overall scratches and wear typically found on utilitarian silver of this era. If you collect coin silver or mint julep cups, this is a nice example for your collection. SEE PHOTOS
