This auction is for a Cold War Royal Observer Corps Maroon 3 Burst No 2 Training Kit. Maroons would have been used to warn of the approach of fallout following a nuclear attack on the UK and would have been issued to Warning Points during a time of tension which might lead to war. Warning points were established at premises such as ambulance stations, fire stations, police stations and Royal Observer Corps monitoring posts. When fired a maroon would have launched three rockets into the air which explode one after the other to make the Fallout Warning Black signal. The kit was made by Pains Wessex and dates from the mid 1980's. The kit would have been used to train Royal Observer Corps personnel in the use of the maroons and one was issued to each Royal Observer Corps Group Headquarters. The maroon simulator features three lights which illuminate (when connected to a firing box) to simulate the firing of the three rockets on a live maroon. The kit comes in the original black box and has the following items:- Maroon Simulator Nineteen Instruction For Use Cards Spare Bulbs * 3 Spare Lamp Unit Yellow Live Maroon Box Cover The kit is in a very good condition but there are some splits along the folds of the yellow live maroon box cover. Unfortunaltly this is not a complete kit and as I do not have the firing box I cannot test read more
