Burner: For a reference, see Catherine Thuro’s first book Oil Lamps: The Kerosene Era in North America . This burner is similar to that seen on page 44, top, second from left. In her third book, Oil Lamps III , a burner exactly matching this one is seen at the top of page 238. According to Thuro, this burner was patented by Michael Collins in 1865. The top brass ring fits snugly inside the chimney to hold it securely. This number 2 burner has been used some, but it is in great condition. The thumbwheel turns freely. Chimney: This is an old cylinder chimney appropriate for the Collins burner, and it is in perfect condition. It is 8-inches high and approximately 3-inches in diameter. The chimney is similar to the one seen in Thuro’s first book on page 46, c, left. For many years, this burner and chimney has been displayed on a blue Turkey Foot pattern lamp that is being sold on eBay in a separate auction. Shipping and insurance will be $10 to be paid by the buyer.
