Airport-Antiques J Collinson & Sons Victorian Style Rocking Horse This excellent quality rocking horse was made by the highly regarded J Collinson & Sons of Liverpool, 1836 to 1993, and we believe it to be approximately 25 / 30 years old.A Collinson's rocking horse can be identified by it's square pillars and the small wooden diamonds which are affixed to the top of the safety stand. Most Collinson rocking horses were also given red painted swing irons.In 1851 Queen Victoria visited the workshop of J Collinson & Sons, and when asked to select a horse she chose one which was painted dapple grey. After her visit Collinson's only produced dapple grey rocking horses. The hand painted dapple grey finish compliments the horse nicely, and the saddle is lined with a dralon type material and brown leatherette. The lower parts of the saddle are lined with green leatherette which is finished with a yellow / gold coloured silk type banding. The lightly tanned straps are made from leather.The stirrups can be adjusted to ensure that they provide a comfortable footing, and the safety stand is made from solid pine, therefore it provides a very rigid platform.Part of the original Collinson label is still present to verify the horses genuine maker.The condition is generally very good, with mainly minor marks of use to mention, including some marks read more
