Historic original photograph of Argentine Central Railway engine # 4 with operating crew of engineer, conductor, brakeman, firemen and switchmen, taken at summit of the track, on Mount McClellan above the silver mining town of Waldorf in Clear Creek County, Colorado. The elevation was advertised as 14007 feet above sea level, and it was indeed the highest railroad in North America although it was later surveyed to be slightly less than that height. Photo is 9 3/4 inches by 7 5/8 inches on a larger hardboard backing that has been trimmed. Upper left corner chip of background is gone, a few spots but really good condition for this unique photograph. Stamped by Mile High Photo Co., Denver, Colo.,(?)awdey & Walter. This photo and the others I have listed are from the collection of Ed Lewandowski, a Denver mining man and railroad historian whose early historical research and some of these photos were used in the classic ACRY history book by author Dan Abbott, Stairway to the Stars. Ed leased the Stevens Mine just west of the railroad under Grays Peak.
