Early Seamans Chest Marked Comd J Rodgers This auction is for the antique seamans chest pictured and described below. Let me first start by saying, this item was purchased along with several other items, from a home known as Sion Hill in Harford County, MD. This 1700's home near the tip of the Chesapeake Bay in Havre de Grace, Maryland is listed in the National Historic Register because of the historical significance the owners have had throughout U.S. history. This has been the home of the John Rodgers family for roughly 250 years. The Rodgers are arguably the most important Naval family in United States history and were key to the formation of this country. Their military leadership began in the 1700's and continued for 150 years. The items in our collection all came from the Rodgers home several years ago when the, then current descendants of the Rodgers family decided to clean the attic after a 250 year accumulation of junk. Descendants of the Rodgers family still own the house. Most known early Rodgers family effects are presently stored in the National Archives. Their family papers are presently housed in the Library Of Congress. I do not know the date of this
