COMPASS CLINOMETER J H STEWARD LONDON ANGLE OF SIGHT WWI MILITARY CASE VINTAGE Description Vintage WWI military issue, compass clinometer in original leather case, marked on the instrument and case with arrow mark, ANGLE OF SIGHT INSTRUMENT H.A. MARK 1 J.H. STEWARD Ltd 1916 No 235 The white dial clinometer with rise and fall scales to 90 degrees is viewed through the bottom window when placed on an incline or via the folding prismatic sight for viewed incline. Locking button and steadying button. To view the compass via the prismatic sight the clinometer is locked out of view. The jeweled green card compass with Fleur de lis North pointer is released and locked by the folding front sight or a slide button. Both functions can be used with the instrument hand held or fitted to a tripod via the screw socket on the base. Patinated solid brass case with lacquered brass controls. Diameter of compass case 2,13/16" or 72mm, weight 329 grams. Good original leather case and strap in excellent condition. A precision instrument in excellent condition and good working order, some minor handling oxidation on the edge of the case. Gross weight 490 grams.
