This is a wonderful example of the Yatagan sword, a traditional weapon from the Ottoman empire warriors, this handsomely made piece is wearing an exceptionally thick 21 ¾" blade of typical re-curved form, blade is of very high quality with spine measuring over 7mm at the thickest, presenting lovely silver damascene work of florals and plenty of Islamic calligraphy, indicating of date, maker, owner and probably Koranic scripts for protection, retaining good sharp edge with no nicks and very good overall condition. The ricasso area is overlaid with figural brass work retaining about half of the gold gilded finish, missing a strap over a spine but holds completely intact. Beautiful Silver mounted hilt with Old I V O R Y grips of typical eared pommel form, one of the grips had a period break in the middle, the other one has a small split, nevertheless both grips hold completely solid, some miner losses to the silver furniture, the entire hilt holds solid and sits lovely in hand, despite of the thick blade the sword is exceptionally well-balanced. The sword is complete with its Original scabbard, having a very old leather covered wooden base with white metal mounts, the seam stitched in traditional Turkish manner with coiled brass wire.
