Complete Spinner Head for the Large Walking or Wool Wheel. This has been assembled from original parts. A Wheel Head Pictured is one of my Great Wheels to show which spinning wheel this fits. (not included in this auction) This "head" is complete and ready to be installed on your Great Wheel. We have left the patina of lanolin and dust found on the 150 year old item. There is a paper label on the head indicating it was made by the Wm W. Hopkins in his factory in Chesterfield, New Hampshire. It is reported that he sold to the western market even after the mills in New England were spinning wool. The West and upstate New York had fewer mills and more home spinning was done. This item is missing on many current wheels on display because it would have been stored away from the large wheel and missed by the movers or surviving generations. The spindle is like a sewing machine needle and could be replaced as we do our machines today. This is a complete head and could be used to spin when you know how. As you are aware, the two bands of twine needed to run the pulleys and spin the needle would have been replaced as needed. If you add them to make your wheel work you should be able to spin with this head. Without a head, read more
