Offered is a very nice Con-Cor 4-6-4 J3 Hudson steam locomotive mechanism with both loco and tender shells in Crescent Limited livery. The Crescent Limited was a flagship train of the Southern Railway from 1926 until 1949. (These N scale locomotives were made by Kato in Japan when they partnered with Con-Cor. Quality and performance on this version is recognized to be considerably better than later versions made in China after Kato ended the partnership and started manufacturing and marketing under their own Kato brand) It's hard to see but the locomotive has "made in Japan" molded on the gear cover. I characterize this offering as a project because it does not have the tender chassis included. The locomotive itself runs quite well the way it is but it obviously needs a tender to look right. The included original tender shell has a couple of holes in it (one in the coal load and 1 near the water fill hatch., but the paint is good. Both of these faults are correctable if you choose to use this shell....I personally, would probably just put a new tender on it if it were me ) Virtually any tender . (regular or Vandy) will work as the locomotive needs no additional electrical pickup to run and the tender/locomotive drawbar arrangement is pretty basic. This is the early Kato manufactured manufactured in Japan chassis and is an ideal locomotive read more
