Young Boy in the Village Square, Oil on Canvas in Gilt Frame Continental School, Unsigned, 19th CenturyItem # 120009TET16 This is a delightful antique oil painting on canvas of a cheerful boy in 19th Century garb, his cream vest buttoned over long white sleeves with a plumed collar. He holds on a prone knee what appears to be a small pig on a large platter surrounded by vegetables, a curious expression on his face that has a hint of mischief. A tipped bucket lies on the ground as a small terrier dances in front of him, likely hopeful for a few morsels. In the background, crowds of village folk go about their business beneath cloudy blue skies. This is a gorgeous work of realism, restored at least a few times and preserved in what appears to be it's original frame in overall wonderful condition. With an overall warmth, garnered by it's mellow colors and soft features, this is a piece that adds life to any setting. It seems to tell a story and brings immense character to whichever room it becomes a part of. It is a treasure you will surely enjoy for a lifetime.
