CONVAIR B-58 HUSTLER! This beautiful cover was produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the Convair B-58 Hustler. It has been hand-signed by chief Convair B-58 test pilot Beryl Erickson . Erickson took the number one XB-58 aloft from the Convair plant adjacent to Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, TX on November 11, 1956. The cover features two terrific color images of the B-58 in flight as well as an image of Erickson. The upper left image of the Hustler in flight test livery is quite striking. The cover is highlighted by the vintage Convair script and art logos, the SAC shield, and the vintage USAF logo. It includes a quote from Erickson and a head-on image of the Hustler. The cover was cancelled at Fort Worth on November 11, 2006, fifty years to the date after the historic first flight. Erickson had previously flown in the B-32 program and made the first flight of the massive B-36 , also from Carswell. He continued in the B-58 contractor test program at both Carswell and Edwards AFB . The cover was produced on a high-quality woven stationery envelope. It is one of only five produced. These covers are likely among the very few items Erickson signed in connection with the anniversary. It will make a significant addition to any flight test history or Hustler collection.
