Beautiful Coptic Textile Fragment, Ancient Egypt, Tenth Century A wonderful fragment of Coptic textile art, acquired recently at a Paris auction. A previous owner/archaeologist appraised it as tenth century, from the ancient Egyptian capital city of Fostat -- a photocopy of his attribution will be included. I guarantee its authenticity as an antique. Dimensions are about 4.25 by 10.75 inches. As a conservation measure it has been sewn onto another piece of soft fabric. Condition, as in most examples of Coptic textile, is spotty: remember, this woven item is over 1,000 years old! But the colors and geometric patterns are a pleasure to contemplate.
