1914 Coq Gaulois by Charles Paillet Important sand cast bronze from renown French sculptor Charles Paillet. This magnificent work is consider to be the one selected by Alexandre Millerand, president of France from 1920 to 1924, to be adapted as a radiator mascot for his presidential Voisin cars and limousines. The final product, the mascot known as Coq Gaulois, was later commercialized by the automobile accessories firm Mestre & Blatge. The only difference between this sculpture and the radiator ornament is found on the base, being the mascot's base round and clear. The piece is signed by the artist Ch.Paillet and has an inscription "Vive la France" . Measures 5"1/8 (13 cm) height. Charles Paillet (1871-1937), animalier sculptor and student of Gardet, cast most of his works through the foundry Thiebault Freres both in lost wax and by the sand cast method.
