For auction is a rhodium-plated CORO DUETTE , or separable brooch, in the form of two clusters of dove-gray moonglow lucite cabochons with pavé and enameled bows. The moonglows are embellish with white round rhinestones. This pin in in good-or-better vintage condition. The rhinestones are mostly yellowing and one is missing, but the enamel is in good condition with only the tiniest fleabite. The cabochons, which are the visual focus of the design, are all in excellent condition. The plating is unworn. Some gentle cleaning is in order.This design was patented in 1941 by Gene Verrecchio for Coro . I have included the drawing from the patent application for your information. Verrecchio was the long-time head designer at Coro. He started working for Coro in 1933 and continued t until 1965. In 1948 he also started his own company, with Coro's permission, that eventually became the Gem-Craft Corporation. He died in 1975.These clips are dress clips and not fur clips as are often found on Duettes . In the 1930s and 1940s it was fashionable to clip jewels on the yokes of dresses. Originally, they actually pulled the neckline back away from the throat. Later as styles changed, they became strictly ornamental and were even worn asymmetrically.
