Wet plate, albumen carte de visite photograph, mounted to 2 3/8 x 4 card. Bust view in cavalry jacket with piping on the collar. Signed in period ink on the front, "J.E. Bruen, Corpl. 11th Penna. Cavy." No backmark. Minor age toning. Joseph E. Bruen enlisted on 9/14/61 and was mustered into Co. E, 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He mustered out at Manchester, Va., 8/13/65, as 1st lieutenant. Very fine. The 11th Pa. Cav. had the distinction of capturing CSA Gen. W.H.F. Lee, the son of Gen. R.E. Lee, in June 1863.
