Oversize Bullfighting Albumen Photograph, C.1860 - Un Alguacil By Juan Laurent (1816 - 1892) On offer a very rare unmounted oversize albumen bullfighting photograph, measuring 13" by 9 3/4" (32.5cm by 25cm). It is by Juan Laurent of Madrid and is titled in the photo "Corridas de Toros - Un alguacil". The Alguacil is a horseman who parades at the head of the paseíllo (the ceremonial parade of the bullfighters before a corrida ) and wears 17th century alguacil clothes. Juan Laurent was a prolific French photographer working in Spain from the late 1850s to the late 1880s. The photograph here is very scarce. It has a rich golden tone. There a few odd foxing spots, but these are very scattered and do not detract from the image.
