Crocoite. 35 x 35 mm 21.09 g Adelaide Mine, Dundas, Tasmania, Australia.A really lovely intricate top quality specimen of this famous Australian mineral. It presents in a wonderfully aesthetic "V" with two very thick crystals and many other smaller and tightly interlocking acicular crystals with very little matrix. The most important thing about this specimen is the sheer size of the main crystals. Individual Crocoite crystals rarely exceed a few millimeteres - the main 2 on this are a centimetre or more ! The crystals are highly lustrous and gemmy, almost translucent in places. This really is an excellent piece and we rate it very highly. Once you view the specimen under the lens though it really is breathtaking and you'll understand just why this species is so popular and sought after. Whilst Crocoite is never cheap you don't often see this quality at any price these days so I don't expect it to hang around - the last few I listed didn't.This is an old specimen from the late 1970's.I'm listing a few good old Crocoites at the moment and some other rare Adelaide Mine minerals including some stunningly good "Chrome" Cerussite, Dundasite, Mimetite and an awesome Hinsdalite ( Plumbogummite ) pseudomorph of Pyromorphite. So please keep an eye out ! GENERAL USEFUL INFO: The most current and detailed information about anything will be read more
