Up for auction is a new, custom, one of a kind, Kato, Norfolk Southern D9-40CW. This engine is as close to how NS dash 9's look without buying brass. I used the underframe, trucks, and fuel tank from an AC4400 to get the correct fuel tank and trucks used by NS. The shell is from the newly released Kato dash 9's, so that the deck mount ditch lights would be correct as well as the AC unit. I swapped out the side radiator grilles with the one's from an AC4400 shell, so that they would be correct for the late model dash 9's NS has. I blocked out the nose light and put the headlight by the numberboards. I removed the molded on antennae's on the cab and added the correct antenna's per prototype. The handrails are all custom bent brass with the plastic stanchion's from the kato handrail kit. I cut the stanchions off the kato handrails and drilled holes to accomodate the brass handrail. The front and rear pilots have the wide stanchions with ditch lights on both ends. An Overland knuckle box was added behind the AC unit, and the stanchion was moved back and the handrail was bent per pictures. I also removed the brake wheel and plugged the hole. I added a modified electronic brake from a SD80MAC on the engineers side front truck. I painted the unit with Scalecoat black and decaled it with Shellscale NS decals. The step fronts were also decaled. read more
