At auction are 6 lithograph ad prints of miscellaneous carriages produced in the 19th century by CW LONG & CO. of AMESBURY Mass. Amesbury was a hub of carriage construction in the 19th century and CW Long entered the business in 1872, and erected a plant on Clark St. in Amesbury. These six prints ( I missed one in the photo) are produced by the LITHOTYPE PRINTING CO of Nassau N.Y. They are overall 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" with an approximate image area of 4-1/4" x 6-1/4." All have a little toning, a couple have some margin staining, and one has a little nibble in the upper right corner. Shown are the No.47 Close Top Goddard, No. 46 Beverly Wagon, Panel Body, No. 50 Wentworth, No. 68 Corning (shown individually in photo 2), and No. 84 Suffolk Surrey with Canopy. Not shown is the No. 65 Beverly Wagon, Plain Body, with Canopy. The 2 single seat carriage prints prints appear to be photographs of the carriages, while the other four are drawings. These drawing have facsimile artist signatures by the same individual W. Svanberg(?) at the base of the rear wheels. The two signatures on the right are normal while the two on the left have printing reversals. Interesting! Nice lot. Please read the payment instructions and return policy below prior to bidding. Thanks. |
