We are offering a great collection of eight (8) cased Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes of the Hawley family. T are 4 daguerreotypes and 4 ambrotypes. (The daguerreotypes we believe are dated from mid-late 1840's.) Most of the photographs have a small piece of paper in the case that identifies the person in the photo. The photos are as follows: 1.) 1/6 plate daguerreotype of a little girl holding a baby on her lap. Written in pencil on a piece of paper inserted in the case is âeoeAnna C.N. Hawley & Phila W. Newtonâe . The photograph is in good condition for its age, but is a little faded and has some spotting. The leather case is in fair to good condition for its age âe" the clasp is intact and works, but the spine is a little loose, and t is wear to the leather. 2.) 1/9 plate daguerreotype of a pretty woman wearing a straw bonnet. A piece of paper inserted in the case identifies the woman as âeoeElizabeth Anne Pelton Newton. Wife of Philo Slocum Newton and Mother of Anne Coleman Newton Hawley, who was Mother of George Burton Hawley.âe The photo is in excellent condition âe" bright & clear, with a little bit of spotting. The case, for the most part, is in excellent condition hardly showing any wear to the leather, with working clasp intact. The case has, however, separated at the spine. 3. 1/6 plate daguerreotype of a middle-aged woman wearing a cap that ties under her chin. A piece of paper inserted in the case identifies the woman as âeoeAnne Pelton, Mother of Elizabeth Anne Newton who was Mother of Anne c. Hawley who in turn was Mother of G. Burton Hawley. Anne Pelton was wife of Nathan Pelton.âe The photo is in excellent condition. Also, everything about the case is excellent âe" the leather shows virtually no wear, clasps are intact and work, spine is tight, and velvet pillow is excellent. 4.) 1/6 plate daguerreotype of a middle-aged woman with rag curls. Her chain and broach have been tinted gold. A piece of paper inserted in the case identifies the woman as âeoeZephira Fuller Hawley. Wife of George Benjamin Hawley and Mother of George Fuller Hawleyâe. The photo is, for the most part, in excellent condition âe" it does however have some minor spotting. The case is in fair condition âe" it is almost completely separated at the spine, the leather shows wear, and one of the clasps is missing. The other clasp is intact. 5.) 1⁄4 plate ambrotype of a stately elderly gentleman. A piece of paper inserted in the case identifies him as âeoeAbraham Hawley who was Father of George Benjamin Hawley who was Father of George Fuller Hawley who was Father of George Burton Hawleyâe. The ambrotype is in excellent condition as far as brightness and clarity, but it does have some spotting (or silvering) only on his suit jacket. The manâe(tm)s face and bust are perfect. The leather case is in excellent condition, showing minimal wear. 6.) 1⁄4 plate ambrotype of an older woman wearing eye glasses and a crisp bonnet tied under her neck. Written on a piece of paper in period ink is âeoeI put them in my bottom drawer of Colonial writing desk. I forgot all about them until cleaning the drawer one day Jan. 23, 1908. I found them and then recalled the circumstance about themâe. Typed below this is âeoeForegoing written by Anna Coleman Hawleyâe. The ambrotype is, for the most part, in excellent condition âe" clear and bright. T is a little bit of spotting in the background surrounding her head. The case for the most part is excellent showing barely any wear. Clasps are intact and work, but the case has separated at the spine. 7.) 1/9 plate ambrotype of a girl (young lady). She is wearing a cameo broach at her neck, and her cheeks appear to be slightly pinkened. She is not identified. The ambrotype is in excellent condition âe" bright and clear.
