Daguerreotype of a young man - this is a beautiful picture of a young man, who has piercing eyes. (I wonder if it isn't a portrait taken when the man left grade school and before he entered the university somew The subject appears to be between the ages of 17-19 - this captures him right as the last of the little boy is still to be seen on his face, but he is definitely on the verge of being a young man.) This portrait is in the typical case of the time - velvet, gilded edge, tooled leather - but it must be noted the case is in two pieces. The clasp still works quite nicely, but the seaming on the other side has worn away (perhaps by some young lady opening the case too much to gaze lovingly at the image of her young man?). I usually don't muse as much about an old image as I have about this one - please forgive me. In holding it and looking at the boy's gaze, this image has captivated me and sparked my imagination. This is quite a portrait - or perhaps the subject is just that beautiful. The measurements are 2 and 1/4 inches by 3 inches of the portrait side of the case; when the case is closed the measurements are 2 and 1/4 by 3 inches; when it is opened it is almost 5 inches across by the 3 inches in height (from top to bottom of the portrait side of the case).
