The city of Vallejo was once part of the 84,000-acre Rancho Suscol Mexican Land Grant of 1843 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, who was responsible for holding peace within the area until the 1846 Bear Flag Revolt, when independence-minded Californians rose up against the Mexican government of California.
