This Dali Self Portrait Print is from a private collection. Signed by Dali - Framed #196 of 250 approx. 21" x 30" Dali was a customer of the world famous Palace Restaurant (the great glory of NYC in the 1970's) & this painting was given to the owner of The Palace by bookpublisher, Lyle Stuart and agent of Mr. Dali. Dali Dreams In a sense, the title of this original, Dali Dreams, is over-stating the obvious. After all, it is fundamental to an understanding of Salvador Dali's art to realize that much of the Surrealist Master's inspiration and ideas came from what he dreamt. And, as one video biographer aptly declared, "God alone knows what this man dreams about!" Another characteristic of Dali's art is that he certainly was not averse to putting images of himself in his works, such as the relaxed, somnambulistic self-portrayal here. In Dali Dreams, he has borrowed an image of himself from a dashing photograph showing him resplendent in dark formal wear, relaxed while reading a book held in his left hand, while his right hand controls a leash at whose end is one of his notoriously mischievous pet ocelots. Now, however, the book becomes swirls of dark reddish-brown, while the leash trails downward, below his foot, no four-legged animals to be found.
