What do the Coke bottle, Lucky Strike package, Shell Oil’s logo and this car have incommon? They were all styled by Raymond Loewy’s design firm. The radical and European-influenced Starliner and Starlight coupes are still acclaimed among the best styled cars of 1950s. Slim and graceful describe this coupe, credited with being the first personal luxury cars of the post-war era. Ford would latch onto this idea with the first Square-Bird some five years later. This Starliner by Danbury, in rich, glossy Bombay red and Salem white, captures the outstanding style of the car uncannily. My sense is that a real car was shrunk to 1/24 scale rather than it being something built to look close to the original. Modern diecast technology is lavished on the model with internal-hinged doors, scissor hood hinges, meticulous interior, highly detailed engine compartment and chassis, and opening fender vents. The emblems and chrome trim are exquisite examples of Danbury at its best. This car will be a standout on a shelf full of more mundane diecast efforts. This car comes with original box, certificate, and handling instructions, all in new condition. This particular is listed as NEW because it has only been out of the Styrofoam for inspection and these photos.
